End of the first week

Hi all,

finally we are getting some time off - so I'm finally able to sit down in peace and write a bit about my experiences here.

It is all very intense but also extremely nice to be with such a large group of people who all share the same ideas, hopes and fears. As mentioned earlier we opened the assessment week with a ceremony lead by an indigenous shaman. The ceremony was nice and very symbolic and a nice way to start our time together. Since then we have had long days that start with a yoga class (or any other way of spending an hour in introspection). It is lovely to get up at 6.30am and to see the sun coming down the slopes of the andes which are just so majestic and impressive.
After breakfast we meet in the group to discuss themes such as non-violence, non partisanship, listening exercises, brainstormings on how to live in a group and solve group conflicts. It is lead by very inspiring and professional people, but I also feel that most of the knowledge is already in us and the facilitators merely lead us onto a topic in such a way that makes it easy for us to bring out all these ideas.

The group consists of about 20 people mainly from Latin America, North America and Europe and we all get on really well. It is a group which together has a richness in experiences that is invigorating and inspiring. I love working with these people because we all share ideas on the importance of self-care, self-respect as well as team care and team respect. I guess for me one of the biggest lessons is to truly work in a team and to learn how to hold back and listen to others, consider their ideas and find common grounds on which we can work.

We also laugh a lot, especially when enacting role plays or presenting things like cultural differences or certain approaches to certain topics. Last night we talked about cultural do's and don'ts and it is amazing what big differences exist even between neighbouring Latin American countries. All in all we are all having lots of fun working hard and developing ourselves and our personalities.

I share a room with Yudelia from Sweden (see photo above) who is lovely and it is great to see that we both have a lot respect for the space the other needs. In general, everyone is very considerate and people support each other when one is feeling sad or stressed. It is also an extremely open environment and we share very personal experiences and I feel that I have already grown so much after being here less than a week. I feel very privileged and happy to be here and to meet all these great personalities and to learn from their experiences. Sometimes I feel like such a greenhorn compared to what other people have already experienced and achieved but I guess part of this experience is also to teach us that each and everyone has something to give and that this is all about sharing experiences and learning from each other.

Well, I hope you are all doing well and are having a good time wherever you are - Lots of love to you all xxx
