I am the authority!

the wedding party was at the couple's new house and it was a really nice, low key get together. by about midnight christine and I decided that we were going to go and check out the house party of a friend - I was knackered and anticipated that I would not stay very late - how very wrong I was!

well - the party was in full swing and it was really good - people dancing and having a laugh and so we just sloted in. I got my energy back and really enjoyed having a good old boogie! when there was only three of us left, we decided to move on to the club to carry on the dancing there. and so we did and it was fun. it's a really cool club on the second floor of a building overlooking the city - and suddenly it started becoming light outside ;-)) so we sat there and watched the sunrise whilst the music was still blaring. it was strange standing on the balcony of this club where prices are comparable to the uk and everyone is more or less rich and right next to it are adobe houses and people take their kids to the field because they don't have a latrine... it does strike me every time and I do feel weird about this part of being here.

after watching the sunrise it was time to go home - after all there is life after sunday... ;-)) I got to my gate and knocked and a guard opened the door but wouldn't let me in (they have finally, after 2 and a half months, started giving our regular guards one day a week off) because he hadn't met me yet. he looked at me with this 'who are you and what do you want' look - I told him that this was my house and that I wanted to go to bed. he said that he couldn't let me in without verifying first; I told him that I was the authority (that's what they call the person who holds the contract with them ;-)) and it always makes me think of the northern lights - I am the authority, oh yes!!) he told me that the authority was in the house to which I replied, no, the authority is just coming home - I told him that I had the keys to the gate and that he should take the keys out so I could prove it to him. of course the lock is a bit temperamental and wouldn't let me do the trick... but luckily the guard from across the road came along and told him that I was indeed the authority upon which the new dude immediately opened the door, clicked his heels and saluted me (will never get used to that bit!) and let me in... in time to feed the dog and get a bit of sleep before going off to making final arrangements for buying my future car!!
